John Scalici is an internationally recognized drum circle facilitator, speaker, musician, clinician, and master teaching artist. He has brought his dynamic, uplifting programs to Asia as well as the United States. His powerful message of 'Unity Through Rhythm' has been featured at college campuses, churches, corporate events, elementary and high school classrooms and throughout the health care industry. Locally, he has led drum circles at Huntsville's annual Panoply Arts Festival. John will be teaching two drumming workshops at Merrimack Hall on August 1, including a special one-on-one class for young adults with special needs.

The Annex Theatre is set to hold auditions for Jim Bovino's The Believers. Auditions are set to be held Wednesday August 5, 7p-10p (Callbacks to be held Saturday August 8 11a-3p) at the Seattle Children's Theatre, 201 Thomas St (Callbacks held at Annex Theatre, 1100 E Pike St). Pre-prepared audition pieces are not necessary; they will only use the performance text. Auditions will be held rehearsal style, in groups and last approximately one hour.

Eclipsed runs August 31 - September 27, 2009, with Pay-What-You-Can performances on August 31 and September 1 at 8pm. (Note: these performances dates are changed since our original season announcement. No extension possible). Woolly Mammoth is located at 641 D Street, NW (7th & D).

New York City Center?s 2009-10 season begins on September 22 with the sixth annual Fall for Dance Festival, featuring 20 companies in 10 nights of dance for only $10 per ticket. The season also includes the third season of acclaimed choreographer Christopher Wheeldon?s dance company Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company and premieres by resident companies Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Paul Taylor Dance Company. The New York Flamenco Festival will celebrate its 10 anniversary year with mesmerizing performances with renowned dancers and musicians direct from Andalusia, Spain, and visiting companies will include the U.S. debut of Corella Ballet Castilla Y León, choreographer Angel Corella?s acclaimed company, based in Spain; Tanguera ?The Tango Musical; and Companhia de Dança Deborah Colker.

On Saturday, August 15th, East West Players (EWP) will kick off its 44th season with One Night Only: That?s Sooo Vegas. Directed by Marilyn Tokuda with musical direction by Nathan Wang, this one night only benefit performance offers the fun and excitement of a Las Vegas variety show without the hassle of driving out to the desert.

Broadway showstoppers highlight Alpine Theatre Project?s new production of The World Goes ?Round, running August 11 ? 23 at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center. The sleek and stylish music concert celebrates the music of John Kander and Fred Ebb, and features a cast full of seasoned Broadway performers.

Shakespeare's A Midsummer Nights' Dream comes to California Stage July 29, 30, 31 & August 1. All shows begin at 7:30 pm.

Creede Repertory Theatre is offering day camps for kids August 3rd ? 8th. Boomtown Jr. for ages 12+ will explore the basics of improv comedy. This camp, taught by Jessica Jackson and Charlie Thurston (very talented members of CRT?s Boomtown troupe), is held from 9am-1pm each day. Participants will be involved in an informal showcase for family and friends on the last day of class. Boomtown Jr. promises to be a hilarious learning experience for all!

This week at BATS Three Spoon Theatre will be taking over with a special double dose of Shakespeare in Vienna Verona - Measure for Measure & Romeo and Juliet, with their trademark enthusiasm and cleverness.

With films and filmmakers arriving from across the globe, the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) kicks off its 13th annual event August 4th-9th, 2009. This year 235 feature length, documentary and short films - from 57 countries - will be screened over a six-day period In locations throughout the state, all vying for top awards. Out of over 7,000 film festivals worldwide, RIIFF is one of only 63 Academy Award qualifying Festivals. This year's films have been selected from a record entry base of over 3,000 submissions.

The Gateway Playhouse?s production of The Drowsy Chaperone begins performances July 29th on Long Island, in Bellport, NY.

Having taken a bus, a plane, and another bus, the New York Philharmonic has arrived in Colorado and begun rehearsals for its seventh annual residency in Vail. The first concert is tonight, conducted by Music Director Designate Alan Gilbert and with baritone Nathan Gunn singing Copland.

'Biodegradable Hero', starring Yori Yanover has been extended. Originally slated to be performed through July 26, it has now been extended through August 30. Cabaret at the Castle (www.magiccastle.com) has chosen Grammy-nominated recording artist, television and Broadway star, Ilene Graff (www.ilenegraff.com), to appear in celebration of 100th anniversary of the structure known today as the Magic Castle. Accompanied by her Musical Director-husband Ben Lanzarone, Graff performs songs from Broadway, the movies and the pop world with completely unique interpretations and arrangements. From Harold Arlen to the Beatles, the Bergmans to Sondheim, you've never heard these songs sung the way Ilene does. Graff's career started on Broadway, performing in Promises, Promises, the original production of Grease (Sandy), and in the original cast of Cy Coleman and Michael Stewart's I Love My Wife, creating the role of Cleo. Feeling honored that he tailored it to her specific talents, Ilene reprises ?her very own Cy Coleman song,? Love Revolution in her show, as well as pieces from Grease, Porgy and Bess, Gypsy and many others.
