The Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts will hold two different sets of auditions for THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK and MISS NELSON IS MISSING!, two upcoming shows on our 2010-2011 season.

Yellow Sound Label has announced the release of a ground-breaking new album from recording artist and musical theatre star Jeremiah James. The CD will be available August 10. Entitled TUPELO, also the birthplace of Elvis Presley, the album contains 12 songs made famous by Presley re-interpreted and re-arranged by New York's finest jazz and pop musicians. Jeremiah James has been a Presley fan since he was a child and his mother would grease his hair back for him so he could look more like The King.

Master storyteller Kenneth Little Hawk returns to Philipsburg Manor's Green Corn Festival, a celebration of the Hudson Valley's Native American heritage taking place over Labor Day weekend, Saturday through Monday, Sept. 4-6, from 10-6 each day.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Congressional decision to require the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to consider 'general standards of decency and respect' in awarding grants, the National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) presents How Obscene is This?, a program about censorship and arts funding.

Beginning September 14, The Jewish Museum presents Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals, a weekly music class for toddlers on ten Tuesdays through November 16. This hip and original class is being taught by Mike Messer, lead singer of the Dirty Sock Funtime Band. Two sessions are offered, the first from 10:00 to 10:45 am, and the second from to 11:00 to 11:45 am. Toddlers ages 6 months to 4 years and their parents will enjoy singing, dancing and jumping in this interactive program with musical instruments, props, bubbles, parachutes and other surprises. They will learn songs celebrating the lives of kids in the city, as well as more traditional and universal themes. A stimulating and fertile musical environment, positive role models, and gentle guidance and encouragement provide an enriching and vital experience. The classes help young children gain a sense of themselves and a connection to the world they live in.

NCPA presents Pratibimb Marathi Natya Utsav, reflecting the best of contemporary Marathi theatre. Connoisseurs would remember landmark productions from NCPA like Zulwa, Atmakatha and Ek Zunj Varyashi. With Pratibimb we hope to inspire young Marathi theatre professionals to host productions of that calibre at the NCPA. Pratibimb will initiate a monthly programme of Marathi plays and regular drama festivals.

Matthew Warchus' production of David Hirson's La Bête, starring Mark Rylance, David Hyde Pierce and Joanna Lumley, will complete its run as scheduled at the Comedy Theatre on 4 September, transferring immediately to the Music Box Theatre on Broadway with previews from 23 September and opening on 14 October.

John Mellencamp's No Better Than This Tour will be in St. Louis, Missouri, at the Fabulous Fox Theatre, on November 6. Opening the show is the documentary film 'It's About You' which chronicles the creation of the 'No Better Than This' album.

CAPA today announced its season lineup for 2010-11. Highlights include the return of Columbus' favorite saxophonist extraordinaire, Dave Koz, and the ever-popular, riotous comedy of The Second City. Winner of three 2010 Planet Connections Theatre Festivity Awards, Maieutic Theatre Works (MTWorks) has announced their 2010-2011 Season beginning September 16th, 2010. The season will feature two world premieres, A Home Across The Ocean by Louisiana native and LGBTQ journalist Cody Daigle (Providence, Life/Play), and The Family Shakespeare by Georgia native and MTWorks' Artistic Director, David Stallings (Barrier Island, Anaïs Nin Goes To Hell). Directors Dev Bondarin (Gallery Players, Prospect Theatre Company) and Nicole A. Watson (Urban Stages, 52nd Street Project) are slated to direct.

Miller Theatre at Columbia University opens its 2010-11 season with Maa: A ballet by Kaija Saariaho, the American Premiere of the composer's only ballet, with original choreography by Luca Veggetti and a performance by International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE).

Award-winning chef and restaurateur Toni Pais has decided to close his downtown dining establishment, Café Zao, located at 649 Penn Avenue in Theater Square, a project of The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. The restaurant doors will close officially on Monday, August 9, 2010.
