Award-winning Canadian playwright Carole Frechette's eloquently impressionistic drama Helen's Necklace began previews Sunday at the Shaw Festival's Studio Theatre. Translated from French by celebrated playwright John Murrell and directed by Micheline Chevrier, it is the first Canadian play to be produced as part of The Shaw's Studio Theatre contemporary Shavian series.

Mint Theater (Jonathan Bank, Artistic Director) today announced the cast for the first-ever New York revival of Mary Broome by Allan Monkhouse. The Mint production will run from August 18th to October 14th at their home (311 West 43rd Street). Opening Night is set for Monday, September 10th.

League of American Orchestras Chair Lowell J. Noteboom has announced the appointment of Burton Alter, Angelo Fatta, Jim Hasler, John Hayes, James Mabie, and Robert Peiser to the League's Board of Directors. The six new board members, who will each serve three-year terms, were elected by the League board during its annual meeting in June.

The 5th Annual Great Wine Performances is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21 from 6 - 8pm at Playhouse on the Square. The fundraiser is part wine tasting and part theatre trivia contest. Ten wine stations are set up throughout the theatre and characters from various shows perform a description of the wines being sampled. Guests must guess the shows the characters are from to win one of 50 available prizes. This year's theme is "Shows That Require an Explicit Theatre Advisory."
