The legendary Harold Arlen won the world over for his score to The Wizard of Oz, and was the composer of countless Broadway and Hollywood songs that will be brought to life backed by a full 12-piece orchestra and stars of the Broadway stage.

This third and final installment of Mapping Subjectivity, organized around the theme 'Transgressions,' explores how filmmakers and artists from the Arab world have dealt with shifting attitudes towards sexuality and gender roles in the Middle East, and presents personal interpretations of the very real social transformations presently taking place throughout the region. Mapping Subjectivity looks into the region's largely unknown heritage of auteur, personal, and sometimes experimental film, highlighting kinships in sensibilities, approaches, and poetics across generations and countries.

The introduction of the microphone introduced a new, intimate style of performing which became known as crooning. Todd Murray follows the history of crooning, beginning in the 1920's through today. With lush popular ballads, swing, Latin beat, all with lyricists such as Berlin, Porter, Lerner/Lowe, Hal David, and Leonard Cohen, Murray demonstrates that all popular music has its roots in crooning.

Giancarlo Guerrero, music director of the Nashville Symphony and principal guest conductor of Cleveland Orchestra Miami, conducts The Cleveland Orchestra in concerts at Severance Hall that open with Igor Stravinsky's Petrouchka (complete ballet music, 1947 revision). After intermission, Cleveland Orchestra Concertmaster William Preucil is soloist in the world premiere performances of Stephen Paulus's Violin Concerto No. 3. The concerto was commissioned by The Cleveland Orchestra with the generous support of Linda and Jack Hoeschler and Peter and Mary Dahlen. The program concludes with Maurice Ravel's Rhapsodie espagnole.

UglyRhino Productions announces the addition of two themed dance parties to the schedule for their interactive haunted warehouse experience,Warehouse of Horrors: Gowanus '73, based on true events that happened in and around The Brooklyn Lyceum in the 1970s. On Friday, October 26 following the show at 8pm there will be a 70s themed dance party featuring DJ Brian Blackout and on Wednesday, October 31 there will be a special Halloween costume party. Admission to both parties is free after 10:30pm and all costumed guests will receive a free specialty shot.

For its 2012 season closer, the Jungle Theater presents the regional premiere of IN THE NEXT ROOM (or The Vibrator Play), one of Broadway's latest mega-hits. This 2010 Tony-nominated comedy about marriage, intimacy and electricity is directed by Sarah Rasmussen, who worked with playwright Sarah Ruhl (The Clean House, Eurydice) on the original Broadway production. Set in the Victorian era, just before corseted women shed their inhibitions, this funny, smart and provocative play concerns the early history of the vibrator, when doctors used it as a clinical device to treat women for "hysteria." In the Next Room opens November 2 and runs through December 16 at the Lyn-Lake theater at 2951 Lyndale Avenue S., in Minneapolis.
