This January, Flat Earth Theatre celebrates the legacy of legendary Czech playwright, president, and revolutionary leader Vaclav Havel with a production of his absurd comedy,The Memorandum, in an English translation by Vera Blackwell. When an office abruptly adopts a new "scientific" language, Ptydepe, a bewildered executive is forced to navigate a labyrinth of red tape in an effort to have an indecipherable memo translated. First performed in Prague under the shadow of Soviet-backed totalitarianism, The Memorandum lampoons the bureaucratic appropriation of language with a satirical spin still representative of today's global office culture.

Last spring, Josepha Penrose, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction for Wildwood Public Schools asked artistic director, Gayle Stahlhuth, if East Lynne Theater Company would be interested in being part of an after-school program for Wildwood students. She was applying for the federally funded 21st Century Learning Centers grant. Since the Wildwood School District decided its theme would be visual and performing arts, Penrose believed ELTC would be a good partner. In late August, Penrose received word that the district was awarded the grant and the program must start on October 1.

Creator Rupert Holmes and star Will Chase of Roundabout Theatre Company's The Mystery of Edwin Drood will be interviewed on "Theater Talk" beginning tonight, December 28 at 1am (early Saturday morning) on Thirteen/PBS (channel 13). Tickets for Broadway's ORPHANS, starring Alec Baldwin and Shia LaBeouf, will go on sale to the general public on December 30. Lyle Kessler's play will be directed by Daniel Sullivan. This production will begin performances on March 19 and open on April 7 2013 at the Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street); this will be the first Broadway staging of the play. Frederick Zollo and Robert Cole are the producers.

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts' Gordon Contemporary Artists Project Gallery will feature the interactive installations of San Francisco artist Camille Utterback in an exhibition entitled Tracing Time/ Marking Movement from February 1 to May 19, 2013.

Are Women Inferior to Men in Math and Science? NYC writer/performer and "recovering mathematician" Gioia De Cari offers a woman's perspective on this question, as she shares her experiences in higher mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the autobiographical solo show, TRUTH VALUES: One Girl's Romp Through M.I.T.'S Male Math Maze, directed by Miriam Eusebio. The show runs January 9-12 at the Lyceum Theatre.

Last year, the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival began a partnership with the Carolina Theatre in Durham and partnered with the theatre to present two shows during last year's festival. Both shows were wildly successful and this year should prove to be no exception. Two of the festival's headliners are slated to take center stage at the Carolina Theatre on February 8 and February 10.

Big Noise Theatre Company will present Garson Kanin's Born Yesterday as their 2nd production of the company's 2012-13 season. Performances will be held at the Prairie Lake Theatre from January 13-February 5th, 2012. Catherine Davis returns to direct for the company, with Peter Rasey serving as producer.
