Denver Center Theatre Company Announces Upcoming Season

The Denver Center Theatre Company announced a 10-play season including four exhilarating world premieres selected from the 2013 Colorado New Play Summit. Karen Zacarias' adaptation of Helen Thorpe's book Just Like Us, Catherine Trieschmann's comedy The Most Deserving, Matthew Lopez's heartfelt The Legend of Georgia McBride and Marcus Gardley's adaptation of Homer's epic poem, black odyssey, will all take to the stage to dazzle Denver audiences. Also selected for the season is a Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, an adaptation of a Marx Brother's script, Shakespeare's tragic masterpiece, a powerful and poignant love story and the return of a Christmas classic. 'We had such compelling and imaginative writing at this year's Colorado New Play Summit that could not be overlooked,' said Producing Artistic Director Kent Thompson. 'Our selections this year are wide-ranging and diverse and I think will bring excitement to our patrons' experience at the theatre.'

The Award-Winning Epic Theatre Ensemble, now in their 12th year presents William Shakespeare's RICHARD III: Born With Teeth, part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts in cooperation with Arts Midwest. The production, directed by Ron Russell, begins previews Off-Broadway on Tuesday, April 16th and opens Sunday April 21st at 7:30 PM at the Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street). American Composers Orchestra's (ACO) 22nd Annual Underwood New Music Readings will take place on Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music (450 W. 37th St., NYC). The Readings include two public events - a working rehearsal on Monday at 10am, and a run-through on Tuesday at 7:30pm. Both events are free and open to the public, giving audiences a chance to look behind the scenes at the process involved in bringing brand new, stylistically diverse orchestral music to life.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company Artistic Director Martha Lavey announced today the 2013/14 Subscription Season, including two world premieres, an American premiere and two Chicago premieres. The season begins in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre with Zinnie Harris's The Wheel, directed by ensemble member Tina Landau. Up next, ensemble member Austin Pendleton directs Tribes by Nina Raine. In the Upstairs Theatre, ensemble member Yasen Peyankov directs Russian Transport by Erika Sheffer. In April 2014, ensemble member Amy Morton directs the world premiere of The Way West by Mona Mansour. And in July 2014, the season concludes with the world premiere of The Qualms by Bruce Norris, directed by Pam MacKinnon.

Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP) presents its resident ensemble BAM! performing a world premiere by 2012 Princess Grace Award winner Michelle Dorrance, commissioned by the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University as part of its debut MUSIC + MOVEMENT FESTIVAL. The program, which takes place Thursday, April 4 at 6 p.m. at the Katten/Landau Studio at 425 S. Wabash, also features works by Chicago native and Broadway star Ted Levy, CHRP Founder Lane Alexander and BAM! member Kristi Burris, as well as live music by the Greg Spero Trio and Chicago jazz vocalist Tressa Thomas.

The Fox Cities 'most eagerly awaited stage production ever will leap onto the Center' s stage from Tuesday, April 9 to Sunday, May 5. Signature Theatre has announced an additional four-week extension for the world premiere of OLD HATS, created and performed by Tony Award winners Bill Irwin and David Shiner, with music by and featuring Nellie McKay, and directed by Tina Landau. This is the third extension for the production, which will now play through Thursday, May 9. The production opened on Monday, March 4 on The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). Tickets during the extension weeks are $75 each.
