When the Carrollton, Georgia production of 'The Rocky Horror Show' was shut down by Mayor Wayne Garner and local political leaders last week for being 'too risqué,' the Dramatists Guild of America weighed in with a cry of censorship and a promise of support of the Guild's 6,200+ members.

Second Stage Theatre will present the new musical THE BLUE FLOWER written by Jim Bauer and Ruth Bauer, with choreography by Chase Brock and direction by Will Pomerantz, this fall. Previews will begin on Wednesday, October 12 and officially open on Wednesday, November 9 at Second Stage's Tony Kiser Theatre. Broadway Beat stopped by for the performance preview to chat with the cast and creative team.

The Old Globe is now presenting SOMEWHERE by Matthew Lopez, directed by Giovanna Sardelli. The production began previews on September 24, and officially opens tonight, September 29. Ford's Theatre is presenting the Washington premiere of the Tony-winning musical drama Parade, directed by Stephen Rayne. The production opened on September 23 and runs though October 30, 2011. The centerpiece of this year's programming for The Lincoln Legacy Project, Parade is based on the true story of Leo Frank's trial and lynching in early 20th-century Atlanta. Ostracized for his faith and Northern heritage, Jewish factory manager Leo Frank is accused of murdering a teenaged factory girl the day of the annual Confederate Memorial Day parade. Alfred Uhry's award-winning book and Jason Robert Brown's rousing, colorful and haunting score illuminate a circus of conflicting accounts, false testimony and mishandled evidence in a town reeling with social and racial tension. Isolated from the world, Leo develops a new and deeper love for his wife, who tirelessly crusades for his freedom. Tony-Award nominee Euan Morton stars as Leo Frank with Jenny Fellner as Lucille Frank in this compelling and provocative tale of justice miscarried. MCC Theater's production of Jeff Talbott's SUBMISSION features Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening, 'Glee'), Will Rogers (When the Rain Stops Falling), Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie, HBO's 'How to Make It in America'), and Rutina Wesley ('True Blood,' The Vertical Hour). The production is directed by Tony Award-Winner Walter Bobbie (School for Lies, Chicago). The production opens tonight, September 27, and performances continue through October 22, 2011. The Kennedy Center's critically acclaimed revival of James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece FOLLIES joined the million dollar club, grossing $1,122,778 million in the week ending September 25th. This is also the highest weekly gross for any Broadway musical production featuring both music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The production, which opened to rave reviews on September 12, 2011, is currently playing a limited engagement through January 22, 2012 at the Marquis Theatre.

New York City Center will reopen following a historic renovation and modernization with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and star-studded gala on Tuesday, October 25 at New York City Center. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will conduct the Encores! Orchestra in the opening number (as a nod to Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, who conducted the New York Philharmonic when City Center opened as a performing arts center in 1943).

Two-time Tony Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Bobby Cannavale will star as Nick Arnstein opposite Lauren Ambrose, who will star as Fanny Brice, in the first Broadway revival of FUNNY GIRL since the 1964 original production. FUNNY GIRL, which features music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Bob Merrill and book by Isobel Lennart, will be directed by Tony Award-winner Bartlett Sher. FUNNY GIRL will play at Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles from January 15 through February 26, 2012. Several special musical recordings will highlight the 2011 Broadway's Carols for a Cure, Vol. 13. Daniel Radcliffe joins the cast of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in singing for the 2011 Broadway's Carols for a Cure, the annual holiday CD benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA). He sings 'A Christmas Carol,' by humorist and composer Tom Lehrer.

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that the new musical Once, inspired by Dublin street performers and a stage adaptation of the eponymous film, may make it's Broadway debut in February of 2012. The musical recently received a workshop at the American Repertory Theatre in Boston and will be given a full production at the New York Theatre Workshop in December.
