BWW Previews: HBO Buys Right to Steven Moffat's Upcoming TV Series Based on THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE By Audrey NiffeneggerAugust 9, 2018Did you love the 2003 best-selling novel THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE by Audrey Niffenegger? Were you a fan of the 2009 movie adaptation starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, or did you wish it dug a little deeper into the side characters that were so instrumental in making the story come to life?
Never fear, because a TV series is on the horizon. People always complain that the movie is never as good as the book, that so many things are overlooked due to time restraints. The best thing about a TV series, on the other hand, is that there is time to explore all those smaller nuances and bring the book to life and make it much closer to the contents of the book.
BWW Review: ADAPTED FOR FILM by Stacey RourkeAugust 6, 2018Aubrey Evans has hit the big time. Her best-selling romance is about to be a major motion picture. Everyone is buzzing because Greyson Meyers has been cast as the male lead. She's protective of her baby, however, and doesn't want to see Hollywood tear it apart and turn it into something completely new. She has several clashes with director Kole Camden over the direction the movie is taking, especially when scenes are removed, re-arranged, or completely altered. News of their clashes begin hitting the Hollywood gossip magazines, and the movie is in trouble--before it's even finished filming. The only way to get it back on track is to have a very public relationship go viral. In her book, Aubrey's main character is an author who falls for an actor on her movie set. It's decided that real-life will mimic the book, and Aubrey the Author will date Greyson the Hollywood Star. Fans go nuts, but Aubrey is in over her head!

BWW Review: WILLA OF THE WOOD by Robert BeattyAugust 1, 2018Every once in a while, you discover a book so precious and breath-taking, it takes you completely by surprise. 2018's sucker punch for me was the recently released WILLA OF THE WOOD by Robert Beatty. I had never read Beatty's best-selling Serafina series. I bought the first two books digitally when they were on sale and then waited for the third book, thinking it would be the final book. (It's not). Now I own all three and am itching to dive in because I love WILLA so much.
I wasn't expecting it, to be completely honest. I was expecting an interesting book that didn't fall far outside of the ordinary. I didn't expect to fall into a book hangover upon finishing. I didn't expect to fall so head over heels deeply in love. I didn't anticipate the heavy emotions pouring through me as I came to the last page. I haven't loved a middle-grade novel this much since THE GIRL WHO DRANK THE MOON by Kelly Barnhill, which went on to win the prestigious Newbery Award. I'm really rooting for the Newbery committee to give WILLA an honor or the big win for this year's releases.

BWW Review: DRAWN TOGETHER by Minh Lê & Dan SantatJuly 24, 2018DRAWN TOGETHER by Minh Lê with illustrations by Dan Santat is gorgeous and breath-taking. It is my favorite picture book of the year with a truly important, resonating message at its heart, and I truly hope it wins multiple ALA (American Library Association) Awards in 2019, including a prestigious Caldecott Award.

The novel has roots in the Brothers Grimm tale The Handless Maiden, which is a darker tale. The book, too, is dark and twisted, about a handless girl named Minnow Bly who grew up in a dangerous cult. It is a murder mystery, as the cult leader is now missing, and Minnow Bly, now in a juvenile detention center, may just know more than she's saying.
BWW Previews: Lionsgate Drops Full Trailer for A SIMPLE FAVOR, based on the novel by Darcey BellJuly 17, 2018This past week, Lionsgate posted the full trailer for their upcoming thriller A SIMPLE FAVOR online, and it has since been popping up on social media and getting a lot of buzz. If you like psychological thrillers like Gone Girl and Girl on the Train, A Simple Favor will be your next obsession. All three movies were based on novels, and the genre is booming. Publishers can't get books into the hands of readers fast enough, and movie rights often sell before the titles even hit stores.
BWW Review: THE SUPERVILLAIN AND ME by Danielle BanasJuly 13, 2018Even if you aren't a big fan of superhero books, you're going to enjoy THE SUPERVILLAIN AND ME. The setting is super contemporary and the book is more about school and family and relationships and life with a side of heroes. (Plus, it's about being cast as the lead in a school musical where everything is going wrong!) It's very palatable if you aren't a fan of the genre. And if you are a fan? It's just as much fun!
