Ever since the enthusiastic acclaimed world premiere of La pietra del paragone at La Scala in 1812 a Rossini enthusiasm was spreading that should cover the whole of Italy shortly. So the writer and first Rossini's biographer Stendhal describes the mood after the premiere of Tancredi in Venice in 1813 as follows: "Even if the Emperor and King Napoleon Venice had honored with his visit, his arrival would anyone distracted by Rossini. It was sheer madness, a true sensation, like the beautiful Italian language says ... "
The performances of Tancredi and L'italiana in Algeri by an Italian opera company in Munich and Vienna, the Rossini Mania also spread north of the Alps. The famous aria "Di Tanti Palpiti" said a Viennese critic remarked in 1817 blaming, "Bey drowned us from all roads and room corners", and neither Beethoven nor Schubert remained from the general enthusiasm unaffected. Whether because "the great noise you hear in the Scala", actually was transformed into vocal protest of politically unfree Italy, as Heinrich Heine said, or the noise, the Rossini's crescendos provoked, but obscure rather than this political oppression should - What is certain is that Rossini's music made its listener addicted. Vienna played there when first opera metropolis north of Italy, an important role: in 1817 appeared in the Theater in der Josefstadt a parody of Adolf Bäuerle on Tancredi, where the so famous "Di Tanti Palpiti" by "The Tant, the talkerti" was replaced , And Tancredi in 1818 was given for the first time in German - at the Theater an der Wien, where Marie-Nicole Lemieux 2015 will conjure together with the Ensemble Matheus under Jean-Christophe Spinosi a new Rossini Mania!
