As reviewed by Benjamin Britten, it is the story of an outsider, who suffers from pressure from society and ultimately breaks her. Peter Grimes, located in the fishing district in the East of England, is a timeless parable about tracking, emotional loneliness, and attempting to get a place in society. The production staged by Christine Mielitz tells it simply and clearly, shows the tormented soul of the title character in a cold atmosphere. After the resumption of Billy Budd in 2011, another one of his major operas will be rehearsed at the Vienna State Opera now new - and is at the same time a contribution to the Britten year 2013!
