Since 1974 at the London Royal Ballet its premiere the "Manon" of British playwright of the dance is Sir Kenneth MacMillan as one of the masterpieces of the genus of the feature-length story Ballet. For his portrayal of a passionate love that shows a gap of highest happiness to the desolate hopelessness, choreographer chose compositions by Massenet, without however to be used music from the same opera. As already in earlier Ballet versions the subject proved also with Macmillan particularly suitable for a purely physical representation. They are exemplary for pieces of choreography of that, fulfilled by biggest emotionality Pas de deux for the protagonist couple. The work mainly by the highly dramatic installation of the main characters that have become one of the most popular pieces of the world repertoire was danced for the first time in 1993 at the Vienna State Opera.
