The centuries-long dialogue between the Spanish folk dance and the dance of high culture was established, culminating in the ballet Don Quixote premiered 1869 in Moscow. The Frenchman Marius Petipa had let through episodes from the legendary novel by Cervantes stimulated for his ballet. The music is composed by the Austrian of Ludwig Minkus.
