Electric Youth Announces European Tour, Kicks Off 6/18

Electric Youth will depart for a month-long European concert tour on June 18th. Trained at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts, Electric Youth is an ensemble of eighteen talented singer-dancers backed by a professional eight-piece band of Boston-based musicians. Electric Youth shows feature high energy performances of pop, rock, country, swing and Broadway music with dynamic staging and choreography.

The 2010 Europe tour begins in Vienna, Austria with opening night onstage at Vienna's Danube Park on June 20. Electric Youth will play a benefit concert at Vienna's Kammer Oper to support a Down Syndrome clinic and Austria's "Ich Bin Okay" program. Electric Youth members will facilitate a workshop for a group of students with special needs to prepare them to perform a popular number from High School Musical with them in the benefit performance.

Additional concert venues in Austria include Kulturhaus Wagram in St. Polten on June 24, Musicall-Musikfest in Gerersdorf on June 26 and the Kulturpark in Oberwart on June 27. Leaving Austria on June 28, Electric Youth will play one show on June 29 in Portoroz, Slovenia. Electric Youth will appear for the first time in the Umbria region of Italy on July 3 in town of Todi.

Electric Youth will perform a Fourth of July show for U.S. troops and their families stationed at Aviano Air Force Base. "It is an honor to perform at the military bases in Italy as part of our European tour," notes Electric Youth director Raye Lynn Mercer. "We have provided Fourth of July entertainment at Camp Ederle in Vicenza and Camp Darby in Livorno on past tours and we are excited to be invited back to Aviano for the third time."

After the Fourth of July, the tour moves to a resort area of the Adriatic where Electric Youth will perform shows in Lignano and Bibione before moving on to Lake Como where a final show will be performed and a tour closing party will be celebrated at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo.
Previous Electric Youth tours have included shows at Vienna's Musikverein, Konzerthaus and Schonbrunn Palace as well as San Remo's Ariston Theater and Villa Manin in Italy.

The members of Electric Youth 2010 are Meghan Dean, 16, Matt Duhamel, 17, Ali Funkhouser, 13, Jill Gleason, 17, Galen Hancock, 16, Kerryn Reeve, 16, and Catherine Weiss, 16, of Franklin; Michael Egan, 16 of Hopkinton; Dan Harcourt, 17, and Katie Ryan, 16, of Millville; Ali McCurdy, 17, and Erica McLaughlin, 15, of Medfield; Samantha Terranova, 15, of Medway; Samantha Vita, 13 of Mansfield; Emily Harrington, 14, of Norfolk; Jacquie Hurley, 18, of North Attleboro; Corinne Falotico, 16, and Callie Liljeberg, 16, of Wrentham.
The band includes director and pianist Raye Lynn Mercer, drummer Kenny Hadley, lead arranger Mark Poniatowski on bass, guitarist Mark White, Arnie Krakowsky on tenor saxophone, Walter Platt on trumpet, Jeff Hoyer on trombone and Ken Reid on Bari sax.

The creative team includes vocal director Hallie Wetzell, audio director Derek Pisano, costumer Tracy Lane and technical director Nick Paone. The team of choreographers includes Kellie Stamp, Mercer, Paone, Cheryl Abbott, Jenny Oliver and Jaclyn Thompson. Tour administrators are Lane, Karen Anderson and Tom Mercer. Tour nurses are Shelley Megley and Roberta Trahan.

A bon voyage performance featuring Electric Youth - Past, Present and Future was presented to a large and enthusiastic audience at Worcester's Mechanics Hall on May 23rd following a sell-out show at Showcase Live at Patriot Place on February 28.
