Story Soup: The Improvised Pantomime at ACMI - Gandel Lab

Playhouse Pantomimes is proud to present… absolutely anything you want!

Our hilarious team of improvisers will make up a brand-new musical pantomime on the spot. But we need your help! Bring along a head full of ideas and we’ll create a fairytale based on suggestions that you, the audience, give us! There’ll be plenty of music and plenty of laughs. There could be puppets, there might be dancing – we don’t know, we haven’t written it yet!

Playhouse Pantomimes been creating theatre for children since 2017, with musical adaptations of classics such as Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood and The Wind in the Willows. Following two successful Melbourne International Comedy Festival runs of adapted works in 2022 and 2023, we presented Story Soup in 2024, and it was an enormous success. Together with our young audiences, we made up musicals about everything from a witch who wants to zap all the colour from the world, to a horse who does stand-up comedy. We had stories set under the sea, in a 7/11, on the Titanic, in a robot kingdom, in a fairy garden – endless possibility! It now returns in 2025 for more stories.

Our cast includes members of Impromptunes, The Big HOO-HAA!, Improv Theatre Sydney and The Improv Conspiracy.
