The Story of Rock of Ages
Welcome to the Sunset Strip, Hollywood, 1987, a place where dreams are big, hair is bigger, and rock ’n’ roll rules the night.
At the legendary Bourbon Room, the city’s biggest rock stars, aspiring musicians and rebellious dreamers collide. At the centre of it all is Drew Boley, a young musician desperate for his big break, and Sherrie Christian, a small-town girl who arrives in Los Angeles determined to make it as an actress.
When Drew and Sherrie meet, they quickly fall for each other. But their dreams of fame and success are complicated by the realities of Hollywood, where ambition, jealousy and heartbreak are never far away.
Meanwhile, the Bourbon Room is under threat. German developer Hilda Klinemann and her son Franz have plans to demolish the iconic rock venue and replace it with a shiny new development. The club’s owner, Dennis Dupree, is determined to save the Bourbon Room, even if it means taking some questionable advice and making some very questionable decisions along the way.
Enter Stacee Jaxx, the legendary, unpredictable rock god whose arrival at the Bourbon Room could be the key to saving the club. With his band, Arsenal, behind him, Stacee represents everything that is wild, excessive and irresistible about the rock ’n’ roll lifestyle.
As the battle for the Bourbon Room heats up, Drew and Sherrie find themselves pulled in different directions. Drew’s desire to become a rock star begins to change him, while Sherrie discovers that chasing her dreams may come with a price. Around them, a colourful collection of characters fight for their own versions of success, love and freedom.
But when the Bourbon Room and the future of the Sunset Strip are threatened, the characters must decide what really matters. Can love survive the pressures of fame? Can friendship overcome betrayal? And can a group of rock ’n’ roll rebels save the place they call home?
Packed with huge 1980s rock anthems, outrageous characters, romance, comedy and plenty of attitude, Rock of Ages celebrates the music and unapologetic spirit of an unforgettable era.
So turn up the volume, grab your hairspray and get ready to rock, because on the Sunset Strip, anything can happen when the music is loud enough.
