WHIPLASH Wrestles Onto The Dancehouse Stage

Chasing his Heart with its suitcase full of memories, Scott Wings embarks on a playful odyssey through the body for Melbourne Fringe 2018.

You know this story like the back of your hand: a first date, a runaway heart. Scott Wings sets out on a bodily odyssey to catch Heart and its suitcase full of memories.

Whiplash is a playful and blistering portrayal of modern masculinity bottled into neurotic poetry and movement. It's a battle for the body - saying yes to too much ice cream, fighting the urge to sleep in and dragging yourself off to the gym in the cold. A proud proclamation of "I don't know - help!"

"I'd been arguing with myself, watching too much Rick & Morty, going back through old Magic Schoolbus books and wondered what would happen if I disappeared into my own body. Could I actually meet my heart? My brain?" Whiplash is an ode to the battles for identity and the way we construct our self image. "It felt crucial to speak about the human form in all its imperfections. A lot of people are asking us, asking men - what are you doing, what's going on? And it's a hard question to answer. It can be hard to step up. But if we don't do the hard yards, really dig down into ourselves, we may find someone else is answering for us."

Scott Wings has a well-earned reputation as a unique, hilarious and visceral poetic storyteller. Whiplash builds on the nationwide and international success of previous works COLOSSI and Icarus Falling. Scott Wings is the winner of the Best New Theatre award at Adelaide Fringe, nominated for a Total Theatre Award at Edinburgh Fringe and is a Performance Poetry World Cup title holder.
