Join Theo and his companions on a lion-hearted adventure into a whimsical, unknown world. Inspired by Pamela Allen's much-celebrated book A Lion in the Night, Adelaide's Patch Theatre Company realise Theo's dreamworld live on stage in Theo and the Lion at Arts Centre Melbourne, Fairfax Studio 11am and 2pm, Saturday 7 September.
Alone in his room and surrounded by worn household items and bric-a-brac, Theo begins to yearn for the excitement of the outside world. Determined to discover what lies beyond, Theo begins to reimagine uses for old, discarded objects. From books to lightbulbs, Theo and his toy lion dive headlong into a fanciful, dream-like world where typewritters can send messages to the sky, a bathtub is a hotpot of delicious soup and an old bicycle can jettison you to the stars. Theo and the Lion is a heartfelt and humorous allegory for the biggest unknown world of all - growing up. A tender coming-of-age story told through beautiful, theatrical imagery and featuring a live pianist and violinist, Theo and the Lion explores the emotional push-and-pull on the path to independence. Based in Adelaide, Patch Theatre Company has a diverse repertoire of acclaimed, tour-ready productions for 4 - 8 year olds and their families. The company has presented over 100 new productions to more than 1.6 million children and their families since it began in 1972.
