TACO KNIGHT Comes to The Butterfly Club

Comedian and classically-trained double bassist Taco Kuiper is set to take the Melbourne International Comedy Festival by storm this year, with her exceptional debut production. Reluctantly sharing the limelight with Terry, her double bass, she Will Power through an all-original songbook of observations from tattoos to tofu, Peppa Pig to pastries and bisexuality to beast-mode. Taco Kuiper is a comedian, singer, actress, dancer, and double bassist - or as she would put it, Melbourne's first quintuple threat.
Over the past ten years, Australian musical comedy has truly become an international force to be reckoned with. From the oft-toted Tim Minchin, to Sammy J, Geraldine Quinn, Gillian Cosgriff and Jude Perl, our festival programs are flooded with brilliant and hilarious songwriters. Eschewing the all-too-familiar (and portable) comedy instruments such as keyboards, guitars and ukuleles, Kuiper thought it was time for Melbourne comedians to really lift their game - hence she takes her double bass from tram to tram, (and only ever travels during peak hour, just to see people's reactions).
"Why use easily transportable instruments like ukulele for musical comedy when you can get your daily dose of endorphins just by dragging a double bass around Melbourne's public transport network?", jokes Kuiper, "not to mention the added benefits of looking like the coolest kid ever to board a tram...Maybe..."
After working with Improv and sketch troupes including Mudcrabs, and stunning Melbourne & Sydney audiences in Foreign Woman last year, A Knight's Taco will showcase Kuiper's absurd everyday observations and witty songwriting. The production opens on April 1 and runs for 7 nights. Bookings recommended.
