Musical theatre superstar Caroline O'Connor will join k.d lang, Rachelle Durkin and Eddie Perfect as Melbourne celebrates the re-opening of Hamer Hall.

Melbourne's Hamer Hall has played host to an incredible and diverse array of talent in its 30-year history, with the concert hall stage graced by performers ranging from opera legends Luciano Pavarotti and Dame Joan Sutherland to music icons Elton John and Sting.

But for the last two years it has been hard hats and steel-capped boots over superstars as the concert hall received a $135.8 million upgrade. The Victorian Government redevelopment of Hamer Hall included significant improvements to the venue's acoustic performance, public access and amenities. And with the transformation complete it is now time to celebrate!

A four-day 'welcome back' extravaganza will kick off with the star-studded Hamer Hall Opening Concerts tonight, July 26 and tomorrow night, July 27. With each performer chosen for their connection to Melbourne, the concert features singing superstar k.d lang, favourite Melbourne offspring Eddie Perfect, and interNational Theatre sensation Caroline O'Connor, fresh off her acclaimed turn as Mama Rose in the recent Curve Theatre (UK) production of GYPSY.

The stellar line-up will also include Archie Roach, New York based Soprano Rachelle Durkin, IDJA Dance Theatre and a 75-piece orchestra from the Australian National Music Academy (ANAM).

In a gesture acknowledging Hamer Hall's place in the hearts of Victorians – and in a first for Arts Centre Melbourne - half of the concert tickets for each night have been set aside for a state-wide free public ballot.

The free celebrations will continue all weekend, featuring art installations, exhibitions, live music and a massive dance performance led by the eMotion crew.

Join in the party as Hamer Hall is welcomed back to centre stage!
