Melbourne Theatre Company Names 15 Student Ambassadors

Fifteen students from across Victoria were announced as Melbourne Theatre Company's 2015 Ambassadors today.

Now in its fifth year, the annual Ambassadors Program gives students in Year 11 the chance to participate in a theatre enrichment program that offers experiences beyond the classroom and supports their passion for the arts.

MTC's 2015 Ambassadors are Nesceda Blake, Lachlan Clarke, Lachlan Collie, Gemma Edwards, Calum Eerden, Ellis Finnie, Ava Govanstone, Lucy Holz, Jake Kirby, Anna Louey, Luke Macaronas, Pragyata Sharma, Mieke Singh-Dodd, Laura Thiele, Jethro Waldron.

During the program, MTC Ambassadors have the opportunity to meet theatre professionals, learn about the inner workings of one of Australia's largest theatre companies, attend MTC productions, and take a leadership role as youth representatives within the Company and as advocates for MTC within their school and social communities

'Each year we welcome a new group of young theatre-enthusiasts as MTC Ambassadors to nurture, inspire and extend their passion for theatre and drama,' MTC Executive Director Virginia Lovett said. 'They are valued members of the MTC community and bring great energy and enthusiasm to the Company.'

MTC Education Manager Suzie Thomas said, 'The MTC Ambassador initiative is an important part of our Education Program as it's an opportunity for young people to gain insight into the world of MTC, while sharing their own experiences with the Company in a meaningful way. We maintain a close connection with our Ambassadors after the conclusion of the program each year, and it's been wonderful to see many of them moving on to higher studies and work within the performing arts when they finish school.

Students are nominated for participation in the program by their teachers, with one nomination per school accepted. In 2015 there are successful applicants from 10 metro and 5 regional schools. The Year 11 theatre-lovers will meet monthly between now and December.
