MTC Nominated for 20 Green Room Awards

By:

MTC was delighted to learn this morning that MTC productions, artists and creatives have received 20 nominations for the 2014 Green Room Awards.

MTC received nine nominations for its mainstage productions, one for its MTC/Chunky Move/Melbourne Festival co-production, five for its Education productions and five for NEON Festival of Independent Theatre productions.

Actors and creatives from MTC's mainstage productions I'll Eat You Last, Neighbourhood Watch, The Effect and The Sublime were acknowledged, as well as the choreographic theatre co-presentation, Complexity of Belonging. MTC's Education Productions Yellow Moon and Marlin (co-produced with Arena Theatre Company) were also recognised with nominations in a number of categories. MTC Associate Artistic Director Sam Strong and Associate Director Leticia Cáceres were both nominated in the Best Director category for The Sublime and Yellow Moon, respectively.

MTC's 2014 NEON Festival showcased five new productions, two of which have been recognised in the nominations for best independent production - Resplendence (angus cerini/doubletap) and Green Screen (Sans Hotel) - with Resplendence also nominated in 3 other categories.

Other productions nominated for the awards include Once, for which MTC worked with the Gordon Frost Organisation to present the first five weeks of the season.

MTC Artistic Director Brett Sheehy said, 'It's heartening to see so many nominations for artists and creatives who worked with us last year and that they stand alongside other great artists and productions from our fellow arts companies. It is especially thrilling to see not only our mainstage plays being recognised, but also works presented through our NEON Festival, as well as our education productions.'
