Get Hooked On Drama With Bunjil Place's Black Box Series Image

A series of dramatic, thought-provoking and compelling performances will captivate and move audiences at Bunjil Place with Black Box. Showcasing 4 performances over seven months commencing 4 April, Ghenoa Gela, Jacob Boehme, Andre DeVanny and Kutcha Edwards will take turns sharing unique and provocative stories of resilience. Told through spoken word, music, movement and dance, each performance will be followed by Q & A sessions to delve deeper.

Ghenoa Gela - little sister, daughter, granddaughter, comic, teacher, fighter, gold medallist, air guitarist, charmer, TV star, Torres Strait mainlander, walking political statement - has made a show. My Urrwai is a revealing reflection on and celebration of cultural and familial inheritance, and an unflinching comment on race relations in Australia. Performed at the 2018 Sydney Festival, catch the Melbourne performance on Thursday 4 April at 7.30 pm.

Swansong will draw audiences in with a tragic and hauntingly tender story of a young man fighting his way into adulthood in West Ireland. Shunned by church, state and family, Occi must battle his way in a dog eat dog world. Swansong is an award winning Irish monodrama written by acclaimed writer/director Connor McDermottroe. Wednesday 22 May at 7.30 pm.

Through a powerful blend of storytelling, projection and movement, Jacob Boehme will pay homage to his ancestor's ceremonies whilst dissecting the politics of gay, Blak and poz identities with Blood on the Dancefloor. Diagnosed with HIV in 1998, the choreographer, dancer and writer from the Narangga and Kaurna nations of South Australia will explore how blood connects and defines us. Thursday 22 at 7.30 pm.

The Kutcha Edwards Hour is an invitation to be immersed in the lifelong experiences of a Stolen Generations member through songs and stories. Join the renowned Aboriginal singer/songwriter and proud Mutti Mutti man, Kutcha Edwards, as he performs music that fuses his beautiful voice with soulful arrangements and an original approach to the blues. Wednesday 30 October at 7.30 pm.
