Frank Ferrante to Tour GROUCHO in Australia
Actor/director Frank Ferrante who won acclaim for his stage portrayals of legendary comedian Groucho Marx in New York, London and PBS television returns to Australia for a 35 city tour in An Evening With Groucho beginning September 30th, 2016 and playing through November 26th. Ferrante will cover much of the country including New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria with stops in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane. Australia based Jally Entertainment again produces. Dreya Weber directs.
"It's remarkable the response we got from last year's audiences," says Ferrante. "Groucho himself never played Australia, never set foot on the continent...and yet I got some of the biggest laughs there that I can recall."
An Evening With Groucho is a two-act interactive comedy with piano accompaniment featuring Ferrante as the energetic Groucho of Broadway and early film days. The entertainment highlights Groucho's improv style through story telling, song, eccentric dance and one-liners.
Ferrante made his New York debut off-Broadway in in 1986 in "Groucho: A Life in Revue" written by the comedian's son Arthur Marx and Robert Fisher. The play ran 254 performances and earned Ferrante the Theatre World Award and a New York Outer Critics Circle nomination. Since then Ferrante has portrayed Marx over 2500 times in more than 400 cities.
The two-month Australian run will follow Ferrante's 2016 summer stint in Seattle's Teatro ZinZanni where he plays the comic lead 'Caesar' in the long running cirque show. The tourwill precede his run at Philadelphia's Walnut Street Theatre where Ferrante will direct and perform the Max Prince role in Neil Simon's Laughter on 23rd Floor opening January, 2017.
