A Vaudeville is Born at THE ODDTORIUM

By:

A Vaudeville is Born at THE ODDTORIUM ImageTwo Kiwi performers, a night out in Berlin, and an unexpected convergence in Melbourne are culminating in the first rendition of The Odditorium, an enchanting concoction of new-school cabaret meets old-school vaudeville, to be performed at The MC Showroom in Prahran this January 11 - 13.

Pop Up Globe actor Jackson Coe (Much Ado About Nothing, Othello) is extending his skill-set, producing his first ever show outside of New Zealand all while performing full-time at the Pop Up Globe in Melbourne.

The idea to Produce came from a get-together with a long-time friend, cirque performer The Quizzical Mr Jeff, in Berlin this past July. Impressed with Jeff's work as a showman and object-manipulator (the ability to breath life into everyday inanimate objects), the two quickly realised that they would be connecting in Melbourne later in the year.

"We had never worked together in a professional capacity', says Coe (30), 'But the opportunity to collaborate was too good to pass up. Melbourne is the Broadway of the South Pacific, and it's the arts hub of Australasia. If we were ever going to work together, this was the time and place."

The pair have also secured effervescent cabaret starlet Sophie deLightful and Melbourne's own master magician Mr Marmalade to join the proceedings, as well a cameo appearance by side-act The Buffer Boys.

"Melbourne has such an incredibly supportive environment and community, it's been both exciting and humbling to help steer this ship for these performers. It's a lot of work of course, but I'm doing it because I can't wait to see these incredible performers shining up there on the night.
