Following the overwhelming success of last year's Record Store Day Australia, for the fifth year running, Australia is set to pull the crowds into stores across the nation for this day dedicated to the local Record Store.

To misquote Mark Twain (who said reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated) reports of the demise of the record store are very much exaggerated. Yes, there are still record stores! And yes, Australians still love them!

To get into the spirit, Record Store Day Australia is counting down the 100 days to the 20 April on their Facebook page and each day an album and a clip, along with who nominated it, will be announced.

Theirs is no hierarchy to the list. It's more a record of 100 Australians nominating an album to be included and saying why. EVERYONE is welcome to nominate by going to The Record Store Day Australia Facebook page, Like it and send a Message. A secret cabal at Record Store Day Australia then picks one nomination per day.

Record Store Day Australia is a day of celebration for the record store: live music, deals and specials, limited editions and more. There's no place to discover music quite like a Record Store.

To see which stores have registered to join the day, just keep checking the website which will be updated daily with registrations, special offers, guest appearances and lots more. For more information, visit www.recordstoreday.com.au. For the 100 day countdown go to www.facebook.com/RecordStoreDayAustralia.

Record Store Day Australia is run by AMRA - the Australian Music Retailers Association. Retailers do not need to be an AMRA member to participate.

This is the fifth Record Store Day Australia and last year's was by far the biggest to date. Many retailers reported their highest sales ever for a single Saturday and queues at the till.
Around Australia, stores host live music and special offers and a great atmosphere with music lovers flicking through the racks looking for old memories and to make new friends.
Owning the physical product is becoming the badge of a real music aficionado because the sound quality is better than most downloads. With CDs music lovers can also format shift more easily, enjoy the cover art, enjoy the information on the sleeve, and CD's are often more affordable.
