The Austin premiere of Matthew Lopez's THE WHIPPING MAN will play at the City Thetare, running February 7 - March 2. The play will be directed by Stacey Glazer.

The Civil War has ended. Into the chaos of war-torn Richmond, comes a wounded Jewish Confederate officer who finds his home in ruins and abandoned, save for two former slaves, who have waited for the family's return. As the three men long for signs of life to return to the country, they wrestle with their shared past, the bitter irony of Jewish slave-owning and the reality of the new world in which they find themselves. The pain that each man endures is not soothed and deep-buried secrets from the past refuse to be hidden as the play comes to its shocking climax.
