Award-Winning Musical NEVERMORE Returns In Time For Halloween Image

Doctuh Mistuh Productions and Penfold Theatre Company are pleased to bring Nevermore: The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe back to Austin. Nevermore made its regional premiere in Austin in October 2016 and subsequently was the winner of five B. Iden Payne Awards, including Best Musical. The Nevermore revival will run October 25 - November 10 and plays at the Ground Floor Theatre.

Nevermore is a unique and wildly theatrical musical play combining haunting music, poetic storytelling, and stunning stagecraft to tell the fascinating and moving life story of iconic American writer Edgar Allan Poe. A literary rock star in his day, Poe struggled with tragedy and addiction, poverty and loss, yet produced some of the world's most original, visionary and enduring literature before dying in unexplained circumstances at the age of 40. At once gorgeous and grotesque, Nevermore blurs the line between fact and fiction, exploring the events that shaped Poe's character and career and giving powerful expression to Poe's words "all that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream."

The musical play was originally written, composed and directed by Jonathan Christenson for the Catalyst Theatre of Edmonton in 2009 to commemorate the bicentennial of Poe's birth (January 19, 1809). The production then toured internationally, playing Off-Broadway at the New Victory Theatre in 2010 and New World Stages in 2015, where it received very enthusiastic audiences and sold-out houses.

The majority of the original Austin cast and creative team will be returning including Tyler Jones as Edgar Allan Poe, Suzanne Balling, Joey Banks, Matt Connely and Stephen Mercantel with Michael McKelvey (Director), Glenda Barnes (Costume Design), Joel Mercado-See (Sound Design), Sam Chesney (Lighting Design), and Teresa Carson (Prop Design).
