Austin Theatre Project Announces its 2013 Season As they are preparing and auditioning for their final production of their inaugural season, Austin's newest professional theatre company, Austin Theatre Project, is proud to announce its 2013 season.

The critically-acclaimed theatre company is presenting three musicals, two plays and capping the season off with a holiday program benefitting the Capital Area Food Bank. Artistic Director David Blackburn says, "We have been recognized as a company that is both creative and courageous in selecting its slate of shows. We are proud to present those theatre gems that are rarely produced but move both our audiences and our actors." Wrapping up the 2012 season is the Maltby and Shire musical Baby. Nominated for seven Tony Awards and winner of two Drama Desk awards, Baby is a wonderful and touching musical that tells the story of three couples on a university campus as they deal with the painful, rewarding and agonizingly funny consequences of this universal experience.

There are the college students, barely at the beginning of their adult lives; the thirty-somethings, having trouble conceiving but determined to try; and the middle aged parents, looking forward to seeing their last child graduate from college when a night of unexpected passion lands them back where they started. Baby opens October 12 and plays through the 28th at Austin's Dougherty Arts Center.

Kicking off their second season (February, 2013) is Love Letters, a Pulitzer Prize for Drama nominated play by A. R. Gurney. Using the epistolary form sometimes found in novels, they sit side by side at tables and read the notes, letters and cards – in which over nearly 50 years, they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats – that have passed between them throughout their separated lives. ATP is proud to present the premier Austin production of Avenue Q, the Winner of the Tony "Triple Crown" for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart. Avenue Q is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q.

He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it's clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life. Avenue Q will be presented in April 2013. After the puppets cope with their coming-of-age issues, Austin Theatre Project gives the humans a shot with the musical Edges. On the schedule for June, Edges is not your traditional musical; it is an exciting new show about four burgeoning adults asking classic coming-of-age questions. Written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (2007 Jonathan Larson Award Recipients) in their sophomore year at the University of Michigan, the contemporary song cycle carries an honest voice advocating introspection while maintaining wit and charm. Confronting emotions, escaping expectations, and deciphering complicated relationships--the songs cover such universal issues as love, commitment, identity, and meaning. Join us and explore what happens when we are teetering on The Edges! ?

In August of 2013, Austin Theatre Project invites you to visit the dark comedy, The House of Yes. Here we find Marty, a college student in New York, who decides to pay his family a visit in their ancient and imposing house in D.C. He makes two mistakes, one is bringing his fiancé, Lesly with him, and the other is coming at all. As soon as he gets home things begin to go wrong, and although the mother, Mrs. Pascal hides the kitchen knives, she isn't able to prevent disaster. It soon becomes clear that Marty and his sister, the unbalanced "Jackie-O" are just a little too affectionate towards each other, and everything untoward that could happen, does. Falsettos, Tony award winner for both Best Book and Best Score for a Musical will grace the ATP stage in October. It is the jaunty tale of Marvin who leaves his wife and young son to live with another man. His ex wife marries his psychiatrist, and Marvin ends up alone. Two years later, Marvin is reunited with his lover on the eve of his son's bar mitzvah, just as AIDS is beginning its insidious spread.

Wrapping up the 2013 season will be a very special holiday show, The Austin Holiday Project. ATP's first annual Holiday variety show is sure to appeal to kids from one to ninety-two, while keeping things uniquely "Austin!" Featuring some of Austin's favorite performers, The Austin Holiday Project will make you laugh, tap your toes, reminisce, and help your neighbors at the same time! A portion of all ticket sales will be donated to The Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. We will also be accepting canned and non-perishable food items so that we can help make the holidays a little better for those less fortunate in these challenging times. Venues and exact dates for the 2013 season will be announced soon. Season Tickets for Austin Theatre Project's 2013 slate of shows are available for purchase at the theatre's website.
