Synchronicity Theatre To Produce Lauren Gunderson's THE TAMING Atlanta's Synchronicity Theatre will close out its 20th Anniversary Season with Lauren Gunderson's "crackling modern political farce," The Taming. Performances run from June 1 to June 24, 2018. For tickets or more information, please visit synchrotheatre.com or call 404-484-8636

The Taming takes on America's overheated political rhetoric and upends historical truths about our founding fathers. When a conservative senatorial aid, a liberal political activist, and a super-sparkly beauty queen find themselves locked in a hotel room, the political passions of these high-octane women prove they might just be revolutionary geniuses. Initially inspired by Shakespeare's The Taming of The Shrew, Gunderson's farce, The Taming, grew out of her desire to wrestle with potent elements inside the Bard's playful and problematic battle of the sexes.

Decatur, GA-native, Lauren Gunderson is the 2017 "Most-Produced Playwright in America." Synchronicity audiences will remember last season's touching one-woman-tribute to her grandfather, The Heath, and the comedy, Exit, Pursued By A Bear. Ms. Gunderson is the winner of the Lanford Wilson Award, the Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award and the Otis Guernsey New Voices Award. She is also a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and John Gassner Award for Playwriting, and a recipient of the Mellon Foundation's 3-Year Residency with Marin Theatre Company. She studied Southern Literature and Drama at Emory University, and Dramatic Writing at NYU's Tisch School, where she was a Reynolds Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship. Her work has been commissioned, produced and developed at companies across the US including South Cost Rep (Emilie, Silent Sky), The Kennedy Center (The Amazing Adventures of Dr. Wonderful And Her Dog!), Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The O'Neill, The Denver Center, San Francisco Playhouse, Marin Theatre, Synchronicity Theatre, Berkeley Rep, Shotgun Players, TheatreWorks, Crowded Fire and more. She co-authored Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley with Margot Melcon, which was one of the most produced plays in America in 2017. Her work is published at Playscripts (I and You, Exit Pursued By A Bear, The Taming, and Toil And Trouble), Dramatists (The Revolutionists, The Book of Will, Silent Sky, Bauer, Miss Bennet) and Samuel French (Emilie). Her picture book Dr. Wonderful: Blast Off to the Moon was released from Two Lions / Amazon in May 2017.

The cast includes Atlanta-based actors Kelly Criss as Pat, Jimmica Collins as Bianca, and Caroline Arapoglou as Katherine. The Taming is directed by Suehyla El-Attar, and will feature Scenic Design by Shannon Robert, Costume Design by Cole Spivia, Sound Design by Dan Bauman, Lighting Design by Elisabeth Cooper and Properties Design by Jillian Haughey.

Show times for The Taming are Wednesdays to Saturdays at 8:00pm, and Sundays at 5:00pm. All performances will be at Synchronicity Theatre in Midtown Atlanta's Peachtree Pointe complex.

Single ticket prices range from $26-40, and are available online at synchrotheatre.com. Group tickets are also available. Please contact Chelsea Pedano at chelsea@synchrotheatre.com for more info.
