Russian Pianist Yevgeny Sudbin To Make ASO Debut, 3/28-30
Russian pianist Yevgeny Sudbin will make his Atlanta Symphony Orchestra debut playing Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 March 28-30, 2013, at 8:00 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.
The Russian-themed program will be led by Michael Morgan, the Music Director of the Oakland East Bay Symphony, and will also include Shostakovich's Symphony No. 6 and the Atlanta Symphony premiere of Benedikt Brydern's Double Identity.
Double Identity was commissioned by the Oakland East Bay Symphony, with a grant by the James Irvine Foundation, and premiered in April 2010 at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, CA, under the baton of Mr. Morgan. The composer describes the work as having an "objective in bringing Swing Jazz/Bebop music into a classical setting."
Prior to the Orchestra's subscription performance on Thursday, March 28, 2013, ASO Insider and Program Annotator Ken Meltzer and members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will host a pre-concert chamber music recital from 6:45-7:30 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall. The recital is free and open to all ticket holders for the March 28-30, 2013, concerts. Concert tickets must be shown at entry.
