PushPush Offers Free Dinner And Global Projects 1/7/11

By:

PushPush will host a FREE dinner and public reading of the pilot episode for Slow Down Atlanta, our new original series. Doors open at 7pm for appetizers, followed by the reading of "Gaydar," the season opener about homophobia and vampires. Sweet.

Dinner will include veg & meat lasagna, fresh breads, a delicious lime-cilantro salad, and homemade Tiramisu served up by our own Decatur Sweeties.

Our goal is to raise awareness about the project plans (for artists and audiences) and begin developing upcoming episodes through audience feedback, commentary, and community participation. Bring a friend for a delicious dinner and funny script!

All patrons and artists, including writers, actors, directors, filmmakers, musicians, visual artists and others in related fields, are encouraged. Info about opportunities for participation on multiple levels will be provided.

YOU GONNA FIGHT OR WHAT?
PushPush Presents Borderline, a world premiere play by Murray Mednick. Would you fight if you're about to lose everything important in your life? Or would you deny the depth of the situation and simply be swept along for the downward spiral? Craig, a substitute teacher and secret addict, consults with his only adviser, an old hipster Rabbi who lives in his Volkswagen down by the mall.

A profound and deeply beautiful comedy featuring Eddie Levi Lee, Alex Van, and Shelby Hofer. Run time, 70 min.

Mednick's work has been recognized by the American Theater Critic's Association, Rockefeller Grants, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. As founder of the Padua Hills Playwrights Workshop in California, Mednick influenced such playwrights as Sam Shepard, Eduardo Machado, Tony Kushner, David Scott Milton, and Maria Irene Fornes , who referred to the Padua Hills workshop as a paradise for playwrights.

PushPush has enjoyed a long, successful relationship with Murray, producing nine of his plays including Clown Show for Bruno, Heads, 16 Routines, Joe & Betty, Tirade for Three, Baby, Jesus! and Freeze. PushPush is honored to produce this world premiere of his newest play.

Murray will join PushPush during the run of this play to lead a writers' workshop during his stay. Stay tuned for more info!

"Borderline is wonderful, a real gem. There's no voice like Murray's in the theater today."
Martin Epstein, Master Teacher and Associate Arts Professor, Tisch School Of The Arts, NYU
