Estonian National Symphony Orchestra to Perform at Emory
By: Robert Diamond
The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ENSO) brings their U.S. tour to Emory University's Schwartz Center for Performing Arts on Friday, November 15 at 8 p.m.
Founded in 1926, ENSO has powerfully increased its international scope in recent years. Under the direction of Artistic Advisor Paavo Järvi, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra has recorded several internationally acclaimed discs for Virgin Classics, winning a GRAMMY award in 2003 and BBC Music Magazine's Best Orchestral Recording award in 2006. ENSO has toured throughout the world, performing with renowned conductors and world-famous guest soloists. ENSO's performance at Emory features acclaimed cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan, whowas awarded the Gold Medal at the 2011 XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition, the most prestigious prize given to a cellist. Lauded as a "seasoned phenom" by the Washington Post, and praised for his "intense focus and expressive artistry" by the New York Times, Hakhnazaryan is emerging as one of the most significant young artists on the world stage. ENSO's Emory program includes Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B minor and Brahms' Symphony No 2.Videos
