Dad's Garage to Host Atlanta Qualifier for US Air Guitar Championships
No guitar? No problem, at least not for masters of air guitar. These performers are bringing spandex, high kicks, even higher energy and lots of rock 'n roll attitude to compete in what the US Air Guitar Association calls, "the greatest thing you've never seen before" to Dad's Garage on Thursday, June 22.
Performers in the Atlanta Air Guitar Competition will compete in two 60-second rounds to show off their sickest riffs and hottest licks for the judges, who will be scoring them on technical merit, stage presence and "airness" (trust us-you'll know it when you see it.) The top-scoring air maestro will be crowned Atlanta's top air guitarist, and he or she will qualify to compete in a US Air Guitar Semifinal competition. Each regional semifinal winner then has the chance to vie for a national title and the opportunity to represent the US at the Air Guitar World Championships, held each August in Oulu, Finland.
Founded in 2003, US Air Guitar and US Air Guitar Championships are devoted to advancing the larger purpose of air guitar set forth by the Air Guitar World Championships: to promote world peace. According to the Finnish ideology of air guitar, "Wars would end, climate change stop and all bad things disappear, if all the people in the world played the air guitar." Beyond the driving guitars and fantastic performances, air guitar is an exercise in hope and support for one another worldwide.
