Dad's Garage Opens Diversity Scholarship for Students Seeking Improv Training

By:

Dad's Garage is committed to fostering diverse and inclusive voices in improv. We recognize that an array of experiences and perspectives makes for stronger performers and, ultimately, better comedy. We believe that our work should reflect the wide range of voices that make the United States, and our hometown of Atlanta, an awesome place to live. As part of this commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we want to increase access to our class and our stage. We have created a "Diversity Scholarship" for our improv classes as a way to foster inclusion.

We want to open the doors to improv comedy for everyone, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, nationality, or class. We provide a safe, uplifting environment for everyone to practice their craft. Ultimately, the "Dad's Garage Family" will reflect the diversity we see in our community and our nation.

Applying for a Diversity Scholarship is simple -- just a few short-answer questions. We don't need to see your tax returns, driver's license, or anything like that. We simply want to know how you will bring a diverse perspective to our company, and why you want to be part of Dad's Garage.

Applications are due by February 28, and by March 6, we will notify our scholarship recipients of their acceptance. A Diversity Scholarship gives you access to all levels of improv classes at Dad's Garage at no-cost. Improv classes begin March 12. Students will be expected to start at level 1 and progress through the class system, regardless of previous improv experience. This program will be ongoing, and students can apply at any time for future sessions of improv.

The application can be found here: http://www.dadsgarage.com/dads-garage-diversity-scholarship/

Simply email us at tickets@dadsgarage.com with the answers to the questions listed on this page.

About Dad's Garage Theatre Company:

Founded in 1995, Dad's Garage Theatre Company has grown from a small volunteer led organization to a thriving mid-size theatre led by professional artistic and administrative staff that includes over 300 volunteers and performers. We now entertain more than 33,000 people each year in Atlanta, at public events across the state, and at improv festivals across the continent. In addition to outrageous original productions, Dad's Garage produces improv shows year-round, educates young improvisers in a high school outreach program, and facilitates classes and workshops for the general public.

Dad's Garage relies on financial support from several generous companies to keep producing scripted and improv comedy. Special thanks to MailChimp, Turner Voices, Fulton County Arts Council, The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Delta Air Lines, Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund, Kickapoo, and the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs for their support.
