My Sudden Sight Productions announces the world premiere of Depth Perception, at the 2018 Atlanta Fringe Festival. Set in the aftermath of a health trauma, triggered by a rare disorder and drug interaction, writer/director Alex Carter was left severely scarred and half-blind. In this autobiographical play, she uses Shakespearean traditions of poetry, verse, song and comedic interplay to tell her story. Depth Perception is performed by a diverse, primarily female cast at the International Montessori Academy from June 7-10, with tickets available at the door or via AtlantaFringe.org.

"When I was in a dark place following a series of horrendous events, I began writing as a way to get the insanity that was my daily life out of my brain." -Alex Carter, Atlanta Fringe Festival Buzz

In Depth Perception, a modified Greek chorus voices the thoughts and emotions of its mask-wearing main character, Maxine, portrayed by long-time stage and screen actor Tenaya Cleveland. Cleveland, who co-produces the show with Carter, has performed in local theatre productions Lasso of Truth and Shakespeare on Draught, as well as Fran Burst's Atl-based indie, The 12 Lives of Sissy Carlyle, and television shows such as The Vampire Diaries and MacGyver.

"This is the kind of challenge that actors dream of," says Cleveland. "I think I speak for the whole cast when I say we feel deeply responsible for telling Alex's story in a way that translates her harrowing experience, while also engaging the audience, making them laugh, and leaving them with a sense of hope and compassion. Of course it helps that we have a great script."

Depth Perception was a last-minute addition to the Atlanta Fringe Festival lineup, accepted just 4 weeks before the festival. Undaunted, Carter and Cleveland quickly pulled together a cast and hit the ground running, determined to do Carter's story justice.

Cleveland is joined onstage by a cast of diverse backgrounds, including seasoned performers Rykie Elizabeth Belles, a musician at festivals across the U.S., and Lucas Ryan, veteran Atlanta improv actor. A master of classical Indian dance, Nirvi Shah Bhargava is best known for her appearance on Good Girls. Breezy Sharp and Sarah Hitzel both hail from indie film. Sharp also appeared on NBC's America's Untold Journey; Hitzel starred in the local web series Dice Lords. Charlie Monroe recently performed in Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor with Act3 Productions. Carter appears at the beginning and end, bookending her tale.
