The New Depot Players' The Dixie Swim Club will play through April 3 at Center Street Arts.

The Dixie Swim Club tells the story of five southern women who met on their college swim team and began a lifelong friendship together. Every August, these five women meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to reconnect, laugh with each other and meddle in each other's lives. The Dixie Swim Club focuses on four of those long weekends that span a period of thirty-three years.

Sheree, the spunky team captain (Amber McCullough) desperately tries to keep up the façade of her "perfect" life and continues through the years in her role as the group's leader. Dinah, the wisecracking cynic of the group (Amy LeCates) is a successful lawyer with frustrations in her life that contrast her successes in the courtroom. Lexie, a true southern belle (Patty Maguire) is bound and determined to keep her youth, keeping her cosmetic surgeon on speed dial, and can be counted on to share some of her hilarious tales of her romantic exploits. The self-deprecating  and acerbic Vernadette (Connie Davis) is acutely aware of the dark cloud that hangs over her life but she faces her tribulations with gallows humor and the support of her friends. And finally the sweet, but ditzy ray of sunshine Jeri Neal (Joni Howard) always sees the positive side of everything and though predictable on the surface, she continually amazes her friends with her life choices.

Directed by Cyndi Evans, The Dixie Swim Club brings a snappy, quick witted and quirky story to the New Depot Players stage. "I am so proud of this show and excited for audiences to get to experience these exciting characters and the amazing women portraying them." says Evans. "This show is a great mix of quirky characters, strong friendships and love, and I think people will be able to relate to these women and hopefully even see some of themselves in the characters."

Written by the same group of writers as past New Depot Players productions Dearly Beloved and Dearly Departed, The Dixie Swim Club has been called "an updated Steel Magnolias" and is a great opportunity to see high-quality theatre on a local stage.
