BROADSWORD Comes To Actor's Express 1/16/2011

By:

The much-anticipated play, Broadsword, makes its world premiere at Actor's Express, Sunday, January 16, 2011 at 5 p.m. The play, which is part supernatural, part heavy metal, and all 80s nostalgia, centers on estranged bandmates that reunite when their most creative (and undoubtedly most neurotic) bandmate who has mysteriously disappeared. Between flashbacks of the past, beer chugging, and reminiscing about the Glory Days, it becomes apparent to the aging metal heads that their bandmate may not have disappeared in the way they had all previously assumed. What ensues is a suspenseful mix of the supernatural and head banging rock and roll.

Broadsword was written by Marco Ramirez, who trained at both New York University and the Julliard School. He has had plays produced at The Kennedy Center, The Julliard School, The Arsht Center, and Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival of New American Plays. Ramirez received the Heideman Award twice at the Humana Festival. Ramirez's talent extends beyond the stage into television, as a writer for the hit drama Sons of Anarchy.

Assembling an illustrious cast full of Actor's Express favorites, director Freddie Ashley chose Chris Kayser, Justin Welborn, Dolph Amick, Stacy Melich, Bryan Brendle, and Rial Ellsworth to support what has been deemed as Ramirez's most creative work to date.

Broadsword runs Wednesdays through Saturdays beginning January 19th until February 12th at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. There will be an afternoon showing on Sunday, January 30th at 2 p.m. Previews for Broadsword run from Thursday, January 13th until Saturday, January 15th for $15.
