Atlanta Symphony Announces New Board Chairman

Jim Abrahamson has been elected the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Abrahamson succeeds Ben Johnson, who has held the post since 2008.

"It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra," said Mr. Abrahamson. "This great Orchestra is both nationally recognized and locally connected. I admire the great music created by Robert Spano, the Orchestra, the Chorus, and the Youth Orchestra, I look forward to continuing the vision of this institution to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of people in this community through our art, artistry, and education programs."

While we still face challenges in this economy, we continue look ahead with focus, confidence, and excitement."

Jim Abrahamson currently serves as president and chief operating officer for Interstate Hotels and Resorts, and is responsible for the company's growing global portfolio spanning the United States and 10 countries. In addition, he will be appointed chief executive officer following current CEO Thomas Hewitt after a transition period in 2011 with Mr. Hewitt remaining as chairman. Mr. Abrahamson joined Interstate from IHG where he served as president of the Americas region and as an executive director of the main board of directors. Previously Mr. Abrahamson has held senior management positions with Hyatt Corporation, The Marcus Corporation and Hilton Hotels Corporation.

Mr. Abrahamson is also very active in hospitality industry and community affairs including chairing the CEO Council AH&LA, US Travel Association where he serves as vice chair, the Real Estate Roundtable, and the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee. Mr. Abrahamson holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota.
