Academy Theatre to Present BATTLEACTS, SOLUTION UNSATISFACTORY and More, 2/15-26

By:

The Academy Theatre announced some exciting new events over the next couple of weeks: BattleActs, The Prestige, Solution Unsatisfactory, and Collective 51.

First up is BattleActs with Laughing Matters on Saturday, February 15 at 8:00pm. You the audience choose who is funny in the monthly improv competition at the Academy Theatre. 8 Improvisers start on stage and take the audience's tasteful suggestions to create songs, sketches, and more! The audience then votes for the scenes they like! Players from improv troupes from all over come to win this great evening of fun! Tickets are $12 online and $15 at the door.

Next, The Academy Theatre presents The Prestige: Classical Music Played by Atlanta's Best Rock Musicians on Friday, February 21 at 8:00pm. Jeff Blanks, Matthew Trautwein, & Matthias Young return to the Academy Theater to play 90 minutes of the best classical music you've ever heard. It's an elegant evening for everyone. From Bach to Corea, these metal maestros use their technical virtuosity to create great classical music. Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door.

Next, Atlanta Radio Theatre Company presents Solution Unsatisfactory by Robert Heinlein on Saturday, February 22 at 8:00pm and Sunday, February 23 at 2:30pm. Before Pearl Harbor, before the war in Europe became a World War, Robert A Heinlein considered the consequences of an unrestricted arms race. He foresaw the possibility of a "cold war", a time of tensions and uncertainty with both major powers possessing doomsday weapons and increasingly itchy trigger fingers.

We approached the brink of nuclear war in 1962 and stepped back. Witness now the prescience of the Dean of Science Fiction, who saw it coming in 1941. Follow a chain of events extraordinary, leading to a problem unprecedented and a "Solution Unsatisfactory." The show will feature musical guest Kyra Goldman, plus lots more great audio drama. Tickets are $10.

Last, Collective 51 marches on on Saturday, February 26 at 8:00pm. Each month, some of Atlanta's finest female improvisers perform 90 minutes of short-form games, scenes and things they create because you told then to. Collective 51 is a rotating cast of performers, with the goal of meeting new people and to see what it's like to have a less male-dominated show - not that there's anything wrong with men, of course! Tickets are $10.00 online and $15.00 at door.

All performances will take place at the Hapeville Performing Arts Center at 599 N. Central Avenue in Hapeville. For tickets to any of these events, go to http://www.brownpapertickets.com/producer/20154 or email academytheatre30002@yahoo.com or call 404-474-8332.
