Academy Theatre Brings DIXIE SWIM CLUB to the Stage

By:

Academy Theatre brings Dixie Swim Club to the stage, a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever. Lynna Schmidt is back to direct an all star cast opening March 15!

Five unforgettable women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through life's challenges. Meet Sheree, the spunky team captain, Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever; Lexie, pampered and outspoken; self-deprecating and acerbic Vernadette; and sweet, eager-to-please Jeri Neal. Free from husbands, kids, and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. When fate throws one of them a wrench, these friends, proving the enduring power of "teamwork," rally together with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction.

"The Dixie Swim Club," written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, takes Southern-fried comedy and occasional melodrama and sets it in a cabin in North Carolina.

Lynna Schmidt, Fracena Byrd, Kathryn Wood, and Kay Bohan return to the stage. All four starred in Academy's production of Steel Magnolias last season. They are joined by Academy newcomer Lisa Boyd.

"Fans of our production of Steel Magnolias are going to love this one," says Lynna Schmidt, who also starred in Academy's Shooting Star and Last of the Red Hot Lovers. "The ladies are back and the jokes are funnier!"

This show is rated PG-13 because of adult content. Audience discretion is advised.
