Actor's Express continues its proud tradition of producing exciting new work with the World Premiere of Atlanta playwright Lee Nowell's new drama Albatross.

In Albatross, a married couple returns home from the funeral of an acquaintance. As they settle in for a quiet Tuesday night at home, a series of startling confessions threaten their humdrum suburban routine.

Playwright Lee Nowell has been acting and directing in Atlanta since the early 1990s. A graduate of Kenyon College, she began her theatre career in Philadelphia and her work has included stints in Ireland and New Zealand. A former company member of the Academy Theatre, Nowell has performed and directed with many Atlanta companies, including Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Essential Theatre and Aurora Theatre (among others). As a writer, she has collaborated with Phillip DePoy on Preacher from the Black Lagoon (Metropolitan Theatre Alliance) and Urban Fairytale (Theatre in the Square).

AE Artistic Director Freddie Ashley says, "Being able to work with Lee on her new play is thrilling. I've known her for almost twenty years and have admired her as an actor and a director. Her background in both areas serves her well as a playwright. She understands character and dialogue very intuitively and is incredibly smart. Her discipline and skill are exceptionally evolved."

The cast includes Lane Carlock, who was last scene on the Actor's Express stage in The Doll Plays. New to AE is Brian Kurlander, who Atlanta audience will remember from Georgia Shakespeare's summer season.

Actor's Express Artistic Director Freddie Ashley directs the production. The creative team includes Phillip Male (Scenery), Mike Post (Lighting), Linda Patterson (Costumes), Dan Bauman (Sound), Courtney Greever (Props) and Ashley Holmes Reeves (Stage Manager).
