Words From The Wings: Jeigh Madjus of HERE LIES LOVE Talks Backstage Rituals, Routines, and More!

Today we're chatting with Jeigh Madjus from Here Lies Love! Jeigh told us all about his backstage routines, pre-show rituals, must-haves, and more.

What’s the first thing you do when you arrive to the theatre?

Fight call. At Moulin Rouge I was at there 2 hours before showtime to get into drag makeup. So I’m making up for lost time and get there as late as possible lol. 

What’s the last thing you do before you go on stage?

I knock on wood three times.

What’s your must-have backstage snack?

Ricolas 

Pre-show ritual that others may think is weird?

We often sing in the dressing room before the show. Somehow we always end up singing Miss Saigon. 

What are five must-haves in your dressing room?

Theragun. The Kitchen Chemists’ CBD salve. Phone charger. One Size Waterproof setting spray. Snacks (trail mix and bars). 

What’s your favorite moment from the show to watch from the wings?

Because of the way the space is set up and the mud flaps, we don’t really get to see anything that is happening “on stage”. I do however love shoe watching haha. Team sound has even started a shoe Bingo Card! 

What has been your favorite backstage moment in your time with this show so far?

We do a little show cheer before the show starts. It’s a sweet way to begin and another example of how much this company cares for each other.
