Waterwell's The Persians...Extends Run at Perry St. Theatre

Due to popular demand, Waterwell will extend the run of their adaptation of the ancient Greek classic when The Persians...a comedy about war in 5 songs moves from UNDER St. Mark's  (94 St. Marks Pl.) to  The Perry Street Theatre (31 Perry Street in Greenwich Village) on Wednesday, July 13th.  The production will run until Saturday, August 6th.

The show, which is directed by Tom Ridgely and choreographed by Kate Mehan and Lynn Peterson, is based on Aeschylus' text, the oldest known in Western civilization.  "The tale of the downfall of the mighty kingdom of Persia after King Xerxes leads a misguided attack against the Greeks is retold with a modern, comedic and relevant series of sketches and production numbers written and created by Waterwell ensemble members Hanna Cheek (Chill & Serve, Sweetness & Light), Rodney Gardiner (Stuck, Chill & Serve), Arian Moayed (Waterwell co-founder, Choo! Choo!, Lost in Yemen) and Tom Ridgely (Waterwell co-founder, The Maker of Dreams, Life in Pink)," states the show's production notes.  The Persians...a comedy about war with 5 songs also features original music and arrangements by Lauren Cregor, additional material by Waterwell member Nicole Parker ("MADtv"), costume design by Elizabeth Payne and lighting design by Sabrina Braswell.

Waterwell was founded in 2001 and has produced more than 10 productions. The company debuted in New York in 2002 with performances of Lost in Yemen, or The Bizarre Bazaar at Collective: Unconscious. An adaptation of Fuenteovejuna followed in 2003 at the Duplex Cabaret Theater along with another original piece Stuck at the Peoples Improv Theater and the double-bill Chill & Serve at the Ground Floor Theatre. In 2004, after touring Chill & Serve around the tri-state area, Waterwell premiered Sweetness & Light at Altered Stages.

The Perry Street Theatre can be reached by subway by taking the A, C, E, 2, 3 to 14th Street, or the 1, 9 to Christopher Street.  The performance schedule is Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
