WRC to Host Creative Chat with Jane Golden, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, 9/29

By:

Wilmington Renaissance Corporation (WRC) announces the program for its second Creative Chat, an informal, interactive series held six times a year to update our community about the vision plan for a Creative District. Each event starts with a networking opportunity followed by a presentation by an expert in the creative or maker field. Creative Chats are free and open to the public.

The event is titled WRC's Creative Chat: A Vision for a Creative District in Wilmington and will feature special guest Jane Golden, Executive Director, Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. It will be held on Monday, September 29, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. at Chris White Gallery, 701 Shipley Street, Wilmington.

Attendees will learn about the vision for a Creative District that will establish a creative community with living and work spaces for artists and entrepreneurs in the City of Wilmington. The Creative District vision plan includes recommendations for mural projects in Wilmington and explanations of their potential benefits. Creating murals can be so much more than painting a wall. It can be a powerful, collaborative grassroots process that can transform both communities and individuals. The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program (MAP) is an international model of excellence in this work. MAP's founder and executive director Jane Golden will share the MAP story-30 years of work resulting in 3,600 murals that have given neighborhood residents a voice to tell their individual and collective stories, a way to pass on culture and tradition, and a vehicle to develop and empower local leaders.

Also featured will be Mike Hinson and Tony Lewis from the Set Trip Collective. Set Trip is an arts and music collective based in North Wilmington that focuses on bringing together like-minded individuals working in all kinds of mediums to have fun and produce next-level content.

Light fare and drinks provided. Cash bar. Live music. After-party at 7:30 p.m. Free registration is required by September 22. Space is limited: http://wrc-cc-2014-09-29.eventbrite.com
