Video: Hanging with the Cast of JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE
The play also stars Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Joshua Boone, Maya Boyd, and more.
In just a matter of weeks, August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone officially returns to Broadway when it opens at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on April 25. The production was recently extended for a second and final time, and will now play through Sunday, July 26.
Starring Taraji P. Henson as ‘Bertha Holly’ and Cedric “The Entertainer” as ‘Seth Holly,’ this production will be directed by Golden Globe Award, four-time Emmy Award winner and recipient of the 2026 Academy Honorary Award, Debbie Allen.
Cedric admitted to BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge that he is eager to share the genius of August Wilson. "[His] words land in a place that help you as a human being. Even when you're reading them, you start to recognize like, 'Oh, I'm reading a character, but this is very, very applicable to what I'm going through in life today.'"
Henson, who makes her Broadway debut in the production, is excited to work in a New Medium. "The picture is never locked," she explained. "[In theatre] you always get a chance to go back and make it better. And it's the only genre of acting where you get to relive the same story every day from beginning, middle, and then you don't jump around the story. You get to try something new every day, and that's what I love about theater. And not only that, the energy that you receive from the audience, the show is different every night! That's what I love."
