Video: Hailee Kaleem Wright Ignites the Stage Singing MOULIN ROUGE!'s 'Firework'

Do you ever feel so paper thin, like a house of cards one blow from caving in? Satine sure does and Hailee Kaleem Wright knows all about it. Wright is currently the Satine Alternate in Moulin Rouge! on Broadway.

"I admire Satine's selflessness. She gives so much. She cares so much that she's willing to sacrifice herself for her friends and for her family, her chosen family," she told BroadwayWorld. "I really appreciate that about her. I think that it's easy to write her off  because of her beginnings or because of what she chose to do with her life, but I think that when you look at how selfless she is and how she gives every part of herself up until the end to protect the people she loves. There's just nothing more admirable in a character than that."

Wright recently stopped by the beautiful Laurie Beechman Theatre to perform "Firework" alongside Moulin Rouge! musical director Andrew Graham on the piano.

"We find Satine in this moment where she is vulnerable for the first time in the show and we really see her questioning whether she still has it and whether she wants to keep doing this with her life. I think it's a moment that all artists go through in their journeys and 'Firework' is her reclamation of her life."
