VIDEO: Liev Schreiber Calls LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES Characters 'Cannibals'

"They're cannibals, and they devour each other," is how Liev Schreiber describes the characters played by himself and Janet McTeer in the upcoming Broadway revival of Christopher Hampton's sardonic drama of sex and revenge, Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

Based on Choderlos de Laclos' 1782 novel of sex, intrigue and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France, McTeer plays La Marquise de Merteuil to Schreiber's Le Vicomte de Valmont. They are ex-lovers who take cruel pleasure in humiliating others through their expertise in seduction.

"Sharks," is the word used by director Josie Rourke, while McTeer adds, "They are completely damaged people."

The previously released promotional video below has been steaming up the Internet since it went live a month ago. The two stars and their director expound on the piece in the video that follows.

Tony Award winners Janet McTeer and Liev Schreiber will be joined by Tony Award nominee Mary Beth Peil in the Donmar Warehouse production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Christopher Hampton, directed by the Donmar's Artistic Director Josie Rourke.

In 1782, Choderlos de Laclos' novel of sex, intrigue and BETRAYAL in pre-revolutionary France scandalized the world. Two hundred years later, in 1985, Christopher Hampton's stage adaptation became an award-winning sensation in London's West End and on Broadway, followed by the Academy Award-winning film Dangerous Liaisons starring Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer. Josie Rourke's acclaimed production transfers to Broadway after a sold-out engagement at London's Donmar Warehouse which ended earlier this year and starred Janet McTeer. The production received two Olivier Award nominations for Best Revival and Best Actress for Ms. McTeer.
