UGLY LIES THE BONE To Be Presented By The Inspired Acting Company
The drama by Lindsey Ferrentino opens this month in Downtown Walled Lake.
The Inspired Acting Company will present Ugly Lies the Bone, a contemporary drama by Lindsey Ferrentino exploring the long-term impact of combat service, trauma, and recovery.
Opening May 22 and running through June 7 in Downtown Walled Lake, the production arrives in the days leading up to Memorial Day.
The production follows Jess, a young veteran returning home from Afghanistan and struggling to adjust to life with severe physical injuries and chronic pain. As she works to reconnect with her family and rebuild her life, she turns to a virtual reality therapy program that offers both escape and a path toward confronting her trauma.
Balancing moments of humor with a clear-eyed look at recovery, the play explores the complexities of healing, identity, and reintegration after service.
The production incorporates projection design and immersive visual elements to explore Jess's evolving emotional landscape and relationship to memory, pain, and recovery.
As Memorial Day approaches, the production arrives at a moment when conversations surrounding veterans, recovery, and reintegration feel especially resonant.
“What moved me most about the play is how deeply it understands the difficulty of coming home,” said director Jeff Thomakos. “It's about pain, certainly, but it's also about connection, humor, resilience, and the struggle to feel fully human again after trauma.”
Performances run May 22 through June 7, 2026 at The Inspired Acting Company, located at 1124 E. West Maple Road, Walled Lake, MI 48390. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 PM. Runtime is approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.
Tickets are $38, with $32 tickets available for patrons under 30 and over 65. Tickets are available at inspiredacting.org or by calling (248) 963-9953.
