Does your child dream of being in Billy Elliot or on Broadway someday? Then this one-day master class with Tony Award® winner and child star, Trent Kowalik of Billy fame will be teaching a BETM workshop alongside Jane Fucillo of Shirley Grant Management on Veteran's Day, Thursday, November 11th.

Director of BETM, Stephen Daldry, said in an interview with the New York Times, "Trent is probably one of the most genius tap dancers we've ever come across." However, Trent had never had any ballet, voice or acting experience before booking the job. Recently, a Billy Elliot Academy has been created for those kids that show potential but still need more training.
Kowalik holds the unique distinction of being the only Billy to perform the role on the West End before the transfer to the Great White Way. In addition, Trent opened the show on Broadway in 2008. "You would think that these accolades would go to his head! But, I've worked with Trent on a bunch of occasions and one of the things that impresses me most about him is how unbelievably modest he is," says Artistic Director of A Class Act NY, Jessica Rofé.
"Trent is extraordinarily mature, focused and professional. Aside from teaching technique in our classes, we always stress how important these attributes are and how it will help students in their lives, not only as actors but in everything they do. Trent is a great role model for our students," said Rofé.
During the Q & A section of a previous workshop, Trent told us that he was very lucky to book the job after only three auditions. Other boys had to audition an astounding eighteen times! It just goes to show that perseverance and dedication do pay off.

If you're gearing up for BETM auditions or you simply want to work with this amazingly talented teen on material from Broadway's biggest smash hit, this class will be very helpful and inspiring. Trent will teach the lyrics and a dance combination from the show. In addition, he will work opposite students on scenes from BETM. He will also touch upon the Northern English Geordie accent he had to master for the role and he might just treat kids to a little Irish Step Dancing demo!

If your child is seeking representation, Jane Fucillo of Shirley Grant, one of the largest and most well-respected youth management companies in NYC, will conduct a mock audition. Kids bring in 16 bars of their own music to perform for Jane and Jessica who will give constructive criticism and work with students on their audition technique. Jane is always scouting for new talent and has signed students from previous workshops.

During snack break, kids get to pick Trent's brain about what it's like to be a Broadway star and don't' forget to bring your playbills! He will be signing autographs too!

Space is limited so all students are guaranteed to get the attention they deserve, leaving with special memories they will cherish forever!
