The trailer for the upcoming film version of David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Proof can now be viewed online.

The film will be released by Miramax on September 16th.  Gwyneth Paltrow, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anthony Hopkins and Hope Davis head the movie's prestigious cast.  Proof, which will feature a screenplay by Auburn and Rebecca Miller, views mathematics as a metaphor for love in a story that has Catherine (Paltrow) dropping out of college to tend to her ailing, mentally unstable math genius of a father (Hopkins).  John Madden, who directed Paltrow in the play when she starred in it at London's Donmar Warehouse (to rave reviews), returns to take the directorial reins of the film.

Proof won the 2001 Tony Award for Best Play as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.  All of the actors in its 4-person cast received nominations, and Mary-Louise Parker garnered the Tony for Best Actress in a Play; Larry Bryggman, Ben Shenkman and Johanna Day also starred.  The play, which was directed by Daniel Sullivan (who also won a Tony), opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre on October 24th, 2000 and ran for 917 performances.
